Lasith Malinga Named In Super Provincial Preliminary Squad

Written by Vipin Darwade

Discarded Fast bowler Lasith Malinga has been named in the Dambula team Squad for the upcoming SLC Super Provincial 50 overs Tournament. The four team tournament to be played from 2nd to 20th May and Selectors have named 24 members Preliminary Squad, which will be pruned down to 15 members squad by the respective team management.

However, it is still unclear whether Malinga to participate in the tournament or not, as he is currently in India, as the bowling mentor of the Mumbai Indians in the ongoing Indian Premier League (IPL).

In August 2017, Malinga launched a attack against SLC intentions in preparing wickets for the India tour, blamed that wickets were suited more to visiting team. More importantly, he had a heated argument with Sports Minister Dayasiri Jayasekara. After that, he never played for Sri Lanka.

Last week, he again insisted that he still wants to play for the Sri Lanka and hoping to be selected in the t20 squad against touring South Africa in July this year.

“Mr. Labrooy dropped me, as soon as he took over as Sri Lanka chief selector, despite the fact that I was the leading T20I wicket taker for Sri Lanka in 2017” Malinga said.

He further stated that he can still perform at top level.

“I hasn’t given up as yet and actually hoping to play against South Africa, when they will visit Sri Lanka in July” he further added.
