I was under pressure: Mohammad Amir credits Babar, Shaheen for boosting his ‘confidence’

Mohammad Amir thanked Babar Azam and Shaheen Shah Afridi for giving him confidence during Pakistan’s second T20I on April 20 against New Zealand in Rawalpindi. Amir returned to the playing XI in the first game of the series, but did not get a chance to bowl after rain played spoilsport. However, the speedster showed his class on Saturday and finished with figures of 3-0-13-2.

Returning to international cricket after nearly 4 years, Amir showed no signs of rustiness. He got the wickets of Tim Robinson and Dean Foxcroft and showed that he is still good enough to make batters struggle in top-level cricket. The 32-year-old pace said that he had butterflies in his stomach, but Babar and Shaheen boosted his confidence.

“You can’t explain the feeling while playing for your country. Yes, I was under pressure because I was making a comeback after 4 years. But credit goes to Shaheen and Babar for giving me confidence. It’s different playing in league cricket and representing your nation.

“But as a professional, when you know what to do, things become simple for you,” Amir said in an interview on Pakistan Cricket while speaking to Zainab Abbas and Urooj Mumtaz.
