Can’t say that ‘vintage’ Rishabh Pant is back yet: Aakash Chopra

Former India cricketer Aakash Chopra pointed out that it would not be fair to claim that the vintage Rishabh Pant is back. Pant made a miraculous recovery from the car accident to make a comeback in the Indian Premier League 2024 as DC captain. However, Pant’s return has not brought any change in fortunes for the team as they have lost 5 of their 8 matches and managed only 3 wins so far.

Chopra, while speaking on his YouTube channel, wanted Pant to bat a bit higher up the order. He reckoned that Pant has been inconsistent in the tournament as his batting graph keeps going up and down.

“I am thinking about Rishabh Pant once again. It’s like a broken record. You can bat slightly up the order because these battles need to be won from the front. You are batting well. You cannot say the vintage Rishabh Pant is back. It takes time. At times, you feel that he is back, and then you feel it will take a little time,” Aakash Chopra said.

Chopra pointed out that Rishabh has been doing well as a wicketkeeper and captain, but needed to step up for his team as a batter.

“A little game of hide and seek is going on. However, Rishabh Pant, the captain, and Rishabh Pant, the batter, there is no doubt that he is keeping well, will be important in this match. He should make the right decisions, come at the right number, and then bat well,” Aakash added.

The swashbuckling player has scored 254 runs in 8 matches for DC and has been striking over 150 this season with 2 fifties to his name.
