Dilruwan Perera must be included, if injured Mathews ruled out

Written by Pushpendra Albe

As Sri Lanka preferred spinner Lakshan Sandakan has been so far too expensive in the both warm-up matches, Dilruwan Perera must replace Angelo Mathews, if he ruled out.

The news broke yesterday, about Mathews calf injury. He didn’t play in the second warm-up match against New Zealand and is not going to play against South Africa in Saturday as well.

Though, there is still hope in the Sri Lanka camp, that he  might fit for the upcoming matches, but even this is not beyond doubts.

In this scenario, Dilruwan Perera seems a good replacement, particularly when Sandakan is struggling big time. He gave away 80 runs in his 9 overs against New Zealand and 69 runs against Australia.

Dilruwan Perera, on the other hand, has been in the middle of intensive training, as amongst stand by for the tournament. A experience off spinner, whose strength lies on tidy line and length, seems a far more suitable replacement for mathews, if needed.
