Harbhajan predicts early finish for 2nd India-England Test

Veteran spinner Harbhajan Singh on Saturday predicted an early finish for the ongoing second Test between India and England in Chennai. Harbhajan’s prediction came just hours after the start of play on the opening day of the Test match where spinners were generating a significant amount of help from the rank turner at the Chepauk.

India lost as many as three wickets in the first session itself before Rohit Sharma and Ajinkya Rahane combined to rescue the innings. Harbhajan reckoned the ball was generating as much turn from the surface as it generally would on an 8th-day pitch. The veteran spinner predicted that the Test match should be over within 3-3.5 days.

“First session of the test match Ball spinning like 8th day of the match #INDvsENG this test match will be over in 3 or 3 an half days I guess,” Harbhajan wrote in a tweet.

Courtesy Rohit’s batting masterclass, India dominated the proceedings on the opening day of the Test match and enjoyed an edge over the visitors with 300/6 on the board at stumps. Rohit was magnificent throughout his 161-run knock which came off just 231 deliveries laced with as many as 18 fours and 2 sixes.

Rohit was well supported by vice-captain Ajinkya Rahane, who scored a fine 67 off 149 deliveries. The duo added a 162-run stand for the fourth wicket to take India to 248/4 from 86/3 and put them in a strong position. Resuming their first innings on Day 2, India lost 4 wickets in no time as the hosts were bundled out for 329 runs.

Rishabh Pant was the lone fighter for India on Day 2 as he notched up an unbeaten 58 off 77 balls but failed to find support from the other end.
