Team India wicket-keeper batter Rishabh Pant, who was vice-captain for the New Zealand tour has been released from the ODI squad for Bangladesh series. Pant, who hasn’t been in great touch in white-ball cricket of late, has been playing non-stop and before the Test series, the team management has decided to rest him.

Along with Pant, the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) also informed that all-rounder Axar Patel wasn’t available for selection.

In a statement on Twitter, BCCI said, “In consultation with the BCCI Medical Team, Rishabh Pant has been released from the ODI squad. He will join the team ahead of the Test series. No replacement has been sought.

In Pant’s absence, KL Rahul will keep wickets as announced by skipper Rohit Sharma at the toss as the board has decided not to go for any replacement. Rahul has been slotted to bat at No. 5, which has been his position when all the main players are back in the squad. Apart from the big change in the batting order, the Men in Blue decided to go with four all-rounders in Washington Sundar and Shahbaz Ahmed, Shardul Thakur, Deepak Chahar.
