The IPL Governing Council discussed the dates of the mega auction with the IPL chairman Brajesh Patel confirming that it will be held in Bangalore on February 12 and 13. The league chairman also confirmed that Tata Group will replace Chinese mobile manufacturer, Vivo, as the title sponsor of the Indian Premier League from 2022.

The two new teams, Lucknow and Ahmedabad will join the Indian Premier League (IPL) in 2022 and make it a 10-team tournament, the RPSG group won the rights for the Lucknow franchise after a whopping Rs 7,090 crore bid and CVC Capital successfully bid with Rs 5,625 crore for Ahmedabad.

Both teams have already begun the process of drafting 3 players for each of their teams before the mega auction, which is expected to be held in February. Each of the 8 existing franchises retained a maximum of 4 players each last year, while the two new teams will be allowed to pick from the remaining pool of players.

The BCCI has not taken any calls on the IPL’s venues. The board will reassess the Covid situation once again in March as they are in touch with all stakeholders and the government for holding the IPL. According to a source, ‘BCCI will see if caseload will drop or not and if he doesn’t then the board will have to create a cluster where there are four or five stadiums and no air travel is required.
