Fans Unimpressed With Essex’s Satirical Comment On Virat Kohli’s 50

Written by Rohit Pawar

Amid the heat wave in England, Virat Kohli’s India faced the challenge of the first-class English county club Essex in a three-day warm-up game. India are set to take on England in a tedious five-match Test series come August 1.

Batting first against Essex, India tallied 395 runs before getting all out. The skipper amassed 68 runs from 93 deliveries with the help of twelve boundaries. And taking to Twitter, the county club decided to laud the Indian skipper’s efforts with adding some humour. Little did they know their satire would be a pyre for the subcontinent fans’ ire.

The Tweet video captured Kohli’s run up for a double as he reached his well-curated fifty. The post read, “This guy’s not bad at cricket…50 up for @imVkohli off 67 balls! #ESSvIND.”

The visitors were in the headlines after reportedly complaining about the pitch conditions which reduced the 4-day game to 3-day one. However, head coach Ravi Shastri made it clear. “One thing, on this trip, you will never see this Indian team giving an excuse as regarding conditions or the pitch. Our challenge is to beat England.

“My philosophy is very simple (in) your country, I don’t ask questions. (In) my country, you don’t ask,” he reasoned. It was, however, the prevalent heat wave that led to the decision of cutting down the number of days from the warm-up fixture.
