Shakib Al Hasan Mocks Sri Lanka and Hathurusingha

Written by Rohit Pawar

Even though, Bangladesh progressed and a cricket playing nation in last few years defeating top teams like India, South Africa, New Zealand and England, the behavior and code if conduct of their players has always been poor. Indian players, most sought after and glamorous in the world cricket, always maintains their dignity publically. Pakistan players, although famous for fights within the team, shares cordial relations with opponents, even with Indian players. Sri Lanka players are most humble and down to earth amongst subcontinent teams. However, Bangladeshi players, for some unknown reasons, always looks arrogant and prefers badmouthing at any given chance.

Now, Take this! Shakib Al Hasan was appointed Bangladesh Test Captain yesterday. A great player, World’s best allrounder and first universal superstar from Bangladesh. However, as soon as he took over as test captain, first thing he did was to mock the Sri Lanka team and his own former Coach Chandika Hathurusingha.

“Sri Lanka Cricket abducted Hathursinghe. But Bangladesh team won’t buckle down and we will thrash Sri Lanka badly in the upcoming series” he told Bangladeshi media on Sunday.

Sri Lanka Cricket Board last week announced the appointment of Hathurusingha as their new Coach.

Under his supervision, Bangladesh has become one of the most competitive team in the world, especially on their home soil. However, it seems Shakib Al Hasan still has the grudge against Hathurusingha. It is noteworthy that just after being appointed head coach of Bangladesh in 2014, Hathurasingha punished Shakib Al Hasan for his bad behavior and even dropped him from the team for a while.

Bangladesh faced a huge backlash at home after they failed to win a single match in any format during their South Africa tour. Hathurusingha, after being disturbed by then test captain Mushfiqur Rahim criticism, resigned in the middle of the series.

Bangladesh are scheduled to play a tri-nation ODI tournament involving Sri Lanka and Zimbabwe in January, before hosting Sri Lanka for the two-test series and as many T20Is.
