After yesterday defeat, Sri Lanka in danger to lose direct entry in WC19

Written by Pushpendra Albe

As two heavyweights who fully controls SLC- Sports minister Dayasiri Jayasekara and president Thilanga Sumathipala have continuesly been busy in observing players bellies, agents, managers, 2017 so far has turned out as one of the worst year in the history of island’s cricket. Bangladesh defeated them on the home soil, they knocked out in the first round of the Champions trophy, and now 11th ranked Zimbabwe is on the verge to win a ODI series against them as well.

And, now team is in the danger to lose a direct entry into the next world cup, to be held in 2019!

If Sri Lanka lose next match against Zimbabwe, they will lose 9 points and will have only 83 ranking points. As west Indies have beaten India once in just concluded ODI series, they will  have 78 ranking points.

So, if Sri Lanka gets whitewashed against India and West Indies win the series against England, then Sri Lanka will have to play qualifiers to get a chance to participate in the world cup.

Though, it seems, it’s not a thing of concern for Mr. Dayasiri and Mr. Sumathipala, as right now they have other more important issues to look after. Right now, they are investigating whether Sri Lanka cricketers have the rights to appoint a manager or not!
