Yash Dayal’s father credits Virat Kohli for transforming his son’s career

Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) bowler Yash Dayal’s father Chanderpal Dayal has thanked Virat Kohli for transforming his son’s career. Dayal once again rose to the occasion for his team as he successfully defended 15 runs in the final over against Chennai Super Kings (CSK) to help RCB register a thrilling two-run victory.

The left-arm seamer once again got the big wicket of MS Dhoni in the final over to turn the match in his team’s favour, as he did in the 2024 edition as well. Following Dayal’s another match-winning performance, his father thanked Virat Kohli for his support and for instilling confidence in his son.

“Virat has supported him immensely since he joined RCB. He’s the reason Yash is performing so freely, without any baggage on his shoulders. When Yash joined RCB, Virat would often call him to his room — and sometimes, he would go to Yash’s room himself. They discussed that over [from 2023], and Virat told him one thing: ‘Keep working hard, toofan macha de. Main hoon tere saath. Chinta mat karna. Mehnat karna mat chhodna. Galtiyan karna, par seekhna aur aage badhna (Stir up a storm. I am with you. Don’t worry. Never stop working hard. Make mistakes, but learn from them and keep moving forward).’ Virat has given him a lot of freedom and turned him into a fearless cricketer,” Chanderpal Dayal told Times of India.

Maine kaafi cricketers ko tootate hue dekhe hai, espcially bowlers ko par Virat ne apne haath se joda hai [I have seen many cricketers break down, especially bowlers, but Virat has lifted him up by himself],” he added.

Dayal went through the lowest moment of his career after he failed to defend 29 runs in the last over for Gujarat Titans against Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) in IPL 2023. He was smacked for five successive sixes by Rinku Singh, who registered an improbable win for his team. The left-arm seamer was released by Gujarat for IPL 2024 in the aftermath of the incident.
