Shreyas Iyer is Fine, Will be Going to Kolkata for Pre-IPL Camp

The curious case of Shreyas Iyer’s dodgy back continues to take different turns with each passing day. After multiple reports of Iyer in danger of missing initial few matches of IPL 2024 due to back spasms, Mumbai cricket team manager had dismissed the concerns claiming the middle-order batter is set to join Kolkata Knight Riders camp in a couple of days.

“There is no cause for concern; he is fine and will be going to Kolkata for the pre-IPL camp in two days,” Bhushan Patil was quoted as saying by Cricbuzz.

The reports of Iyer dealing with back issue first emerged after the end of the 2nd Test between India and England in Vizag. He was then dropped from India squad for the remaining three matches of the series with BCCI not giving any official reason.

Iyer then skipped Mumbai’s Ranji Trophy quarter-final fixture with Baroda before being named in their squad for the semi-final against Tamil Nadu. Iyer played in the last-four clash and also in the title clash during which he scored a superb 95 in Mumbai’s second innings as they went on to win the trophy for a record-extending 42nd time.

Iyer didn’t take the field on the fourth and fifth day of the contest though with reports claiming he has complained of back spasms and has undergone scans.
