Was feeling really bad that I got Kane Williamson run-out: Priyam Garg

Sunrisers Hyderabad rookie Priyam Garg revealed his conversation with his teammate Kane Williamson after the latter’s run out in Match 14 of the Indian Premier League (2020) against Chennai Super Kings in Dubai on Friday.

Williamson was run-out for 9 off the final ball of the 11th over with Garg, who had just come to the crease and was yet to open his account, at the non-striker’s end.

Williamson was looking for a quick single after hitting the ball towards short mid-wicket when Garg turned down his partner’s request. Ambati Rayudu, at short mid-wicket, got to the ball and threw it towards MS Dhoni, who quickly disturbed the stumps in a flash with Williamson well short of his crease.

Garg later revealed that Williamson told him to focus on the game instead of feeling guilty about running him out at the mid-innings break.

“I was feeling very bad (on the run-out) because he was the set batsman and also far more experienced. That run-out was a mistake but things eventually improved,” Garg told Abhishek Sharma in candid interview after the match.

“He told me not to worry or think too much about the run-out, told me to forget about it and focus on the rest of the match,” Garg revealed.

Priyam Garg and Abhishek Sharma were involved in a crucial partnership for the 5th wicket worth 77 runs which helped SRH recover from 69 for 4 to 145 for 4 before the latter got out for 31 off 24 balls.
