Mahela Jayawardene to be Team India’s new coach!

Cricket Age has learnt from highly placed sources within BCCI, that former Sri Lanka great Mahela Jayawardene could be Team India’s new Coach, as the post has been vacant since the controversial resignation of Anil Kumble few days ago.

One of the most stylish player of world cricket, Jayawardene has scored more than 25,000 international runs in his illustrious career. More than that, he has been considered as one of the best captain world cricket has ever seen.

So, there is no surprise that he has been in high demand as a coach as well, after his retirement. He was the coach of IPL most expensive team Mumbai Indians, during the recently concluded Edition, and the frenchaise won the tournament empathically, under his coaching.

“The BCCI has extended the date for applying the post till 9th July, and most of the players, including Mumbai Indians captain Rohit Sharma, are in favour of Mahela” told the insider.

Many prominent names like Virender Sehwag, Tom Moody, Lalchand Rajput had submitted applications for the post of head coach. But, the final decision is yet to made.

The three-member Cricket Advisory Committee (CAC) comprising batting legends Sachin Tendulkar, V.V.S. Laxman and Sourav Ganguly has been given the responsibility to search for a full-time replacement for Anil Kumble.
