Sri Lanka Prime Minister Mahinda Rajapaksa’s Son Rohitha makes List A Cricket Debut

Rohitha Rajapaksa, youngest son of Sri Lanka’s Prime Minister Mahinda Rajapaksa, today made his List A debut, Cricket Age exclusively learns.

Cricket Age was the first media publication to break the news, on October 13 itself, stating that Rohitha is in line to play in the domestic limited overs tournament.

Sri Lanka’s much talked about domestic cricket season kicked off today with Major club 50 overs tournament, consistenting of 26 teams in two groups. Rohitha, representing Kalutara TC, opened the innings against Navy SC at Welisara. Though, he couldn’t make an immidate impact and was judged out LBW on zero.

Rohitha, a former rugby player, represented Army rugby team in past.

The Sri Lanka Cricket (SLC) Tournament Committee is hoping to finish off the tournament before the Lanka Premier League (LPL). It will be followed by the all-important National Super League with the participation of 5 teams – Colombo, Kandy, Dambulla, Galle and Jaffna. This will be the highest standard of domestic cricket in the country.

The players will be selected for the National Super League upon their performances in the Inter-Club competitions. The National Super League will be played as four-day first-class matches and 50-over matches in January, February and March.

The new structure was designed by the Tournament Committee of the Sri Lanka Cricket headed by Samantha Dodanwela in consultation with the Technical Advisory Committee led by Aravinda De Silva.
