The Committee of Public Enterprises (COPE) of parliament has instructed Sri Lanka Cricket Board (SLC) to suspend it’s operations of Cricket Aid until Auditor General submit an audit report within two months.
Today, COPE of parliament commenced investigating the frauds and corruptions of SLC, mainly centred around much talked about forensic audit report.
Cricket Age understands that the COPE found plenty of irregularities in the functioning of the Cricket Aid in last couple of years.
It is noteworthy that the so called Cricket Aid is the brainchild of former SLC President Thilanga Sumathipala, who promoted this initiative during his dreadful tenure at the board.
Coincidentally, right now Sumathipala is also fighting a losing battle, as country’s Sports Minister Harin Fernando has knocked him out through a new regulation that prevents any individual from holding a position, who is directly or indirectly involves in betting and gambling. Sumathipala has admitted in parliament that his family runs a gambling outfit named Sporting Star.
