Pakistan cricket board announces blanket ban on future WCL participation

The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) has announced that they’re issuing a blanket ban on future participation in the World Championship Of Legends (WCL) after what was a controversial 2025 edition. The PCB in a statement said that the WCL’s statement and action, following the India Legends team’s decision to pull out of the semi-final against Pakistan Legends, were tainted with hypocrisy and bias.

The 2025 edition saw India refuse to play Pakistan twice. Players like Harbhajan Singh, Shikhar Dhawan, Suresh Raina and the Pathan brothers decided to pull out of the contest, forcing the organisers to cancel the match altogether. After Pakistan topped the table and India secured their spot in the semis, the Indian team decided to pull out of the tournament entirely. This allowed Pakistan to reach the final, where they were thrashed by South Africa.

In the statement released on Sunday, August 3, the PCB questioned why WCL allowed India a point when they had willingly forfeited the game. PCB chairman Mohsin Naqvi was present for the 79th Bog meeting virtually and was disappointed with the conduct of the WCL.

“The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) announces that it is issuing a blanket ban from future participation in the World Championship of Legends (WCL).”
