Joe Root is England’s highest run scorer in Test cricket, and on Sunday (August 3), during the fourth day’s play of the ongoing fifth India-England Test at The Oval, he entered his name in the history books by becoming the first cricketer in the world to score 6000 runs in the World Test Championship. The ongoing fifth Test of the Anderson-Tendulkar Trophy is Root’s 69th match for England in the WTC, and he has 6000 runs to his credit.

Root, who got out for 29 runs in the first innings, needed 25 runs in the second innings to complete 6000 runs in the WTC, and he achieved the objective by hitting Mohammed Siraj for a four (when batting on 24) in the 40th over during the afternoon session of the fourth day’s play.

The world No. 1 Test batter would like to score big runs for the Ollie Pope-led side in the second innings of the ongoing match and help them successfully chase down the target of 374 runs to win the series with a scoreline of 3-1.

In 20 Tests against India at home, Root has scored nine centuries. No other batter in the world has scored nine Test centuries at home against one team.
