Exclusive: No vice president election at ACC AGM, BCCI likely to opt for Sri Lanka or South Africa for Asia Cup

Even though the Asian Cricket Council’s (ACC) much-awaited two days Annual General Meeting (AGM) is finally starting from today in Dhaka and the Board Of Control For Cricket In India (BCCI) has made a last minute U-turn to participate virtually, things are still not that much simplified! Cricket Age Exclusively learns that the BCCI and it’s close allies – Sri Lanka, Afghanistan, Oman etc – were agreed to attend the AGM, only when it was decided to postpone the ACC vice President election as well as formation of various committees. Accordingly, only passing the accounts and decision on Asia Cup venue remains the core agendas of the AGM!

The ACC is currently chaired by Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) head Mohsin Naqvi.

“A certain person of Emirates Cricket Board is trying to manipulate the ACC vice president election with the support of Pakistan and few other small cricket boards. Thus, to stop this manipulation, the election has been put on hold” an ACC source told Cricket Age.

Interestingly, with this new development, BCCI is most likely to skip UAE for hosting the Asia Cup. In this scenario, Sri Lanka and South Africa, two of India’s closest allies, will be preferred to host the tournament.

Even If the Asia Cup gets the green light In Sri Lanka or South Africa, it remains to be seen what happens to India vs Pakistan. Even if India and Pakistan are not clubbed in the same group, the two teams will have to battle it out in the Super 4s stage and eventually the final if they make it to the summit clash. In the aftermath of the terror attack in Pahalgam and then the retaliatory Operation Sindoor, calls to boycott cricketing ties with Pakistan in every capacity have gained steam.

The ACC AGM will start at 2 PM local time In Dhaka.
