Jamie Smith Becomes Joint-Fastest Wicketkeeper-Batter To Score 1000 Runs In Tests

Jamie Smith is England’s first-choice wicketkeeper-batter in Test cricket, and on Friday (July 11), during the second day’s play of the ongoing third India-England Test at Lord’s, he entered his name in the history books by equalling the world record of scoring the fastest 1000 runs in Test cricket by a wicketkeeper-batter. The ongoing India-England match at Lord’s is Smith’s 13th Test for the Poms, and he has completed 1000 Test runs in just 21 innings.

Smith needed three runs on Friday to complete 1000 runs in Tests, and he achieved the objective by hitting Mohammed Siraj for a four on the first ball of the 87th over of England’s first innings.

South Africa’s Quinton de Kock also needed 21 innings to score 1000 Test runs.
