Legendary Indian batter Sachin Tendulkar is impressed with Shubman Gill’s batting as well as his captaincy. Gill, who was appointed as India’s 37th Test captain on May 24, 2025, made his red-ball captaincy debut against England in Leeds on June 20, 2025. In the two Tests played so far as India captain, Gill has impressed with his batting. He has hammered three centuries in four innings as India Test captain, and under his leadership, for the first time ever, India also managed to win a Test match at Edgbaston in Birmingham.
Speaking in a video shared by Star Sports on X on Thursday (July 10), when Tendulkar was asked about Gill’s batting and captaincy, he praised him and said, “He’s been good. He’s very calm and composed, and I strongly believe that how the rest of the 10 players also react to what he’s doing. Whatever decisions he’s taken, they’ve been measured decisions, well thought of. His batting is complementing that as well because if a captain is in good form, it makes a huge difference on decision making. You need to be in the right frame of mind to make those important calls.”
“He’s been batting brilliantly. As an opposition, normally they look to find weak areas in your batting and your technique. At this point of time, it’s been remarkable. Whatever I’ve seen, it’s been special,” Tendulkar added.
“I’m very happy with the way we came back in the series in the second Test match after that disappointment in the first match. In the first match there were a few catches dropped, and I was brought up by my coach saying, Catches win matches,” he concluded.
