Rohit Sharma is one of the greatest white-ball batters of all time. The 38-year-old right-handed batter from Mumbai is the all-time leading run getter in T20Is and has more than 11,000 runs to his name in ODIs. Rohit announced his retirement from T20Is after India’s T20 World Cup 2024 title win on June 29, 2024, and stepped away from Test cricket on May 7, 2025, but he is still an active cricketer in the 50-over format of the game and wants to play for India in the 2027 ODI World Cup.
Rohit last played an ODI match for India on March 9, 2025, against New Zealand and scored 76 runs from 83 balls to win the POTM award in the Champions Trophy 2025 final played at the Dubai International Cricket Stadium.
Rohit is still a force to reckon with in international cricket, but according to a report in Hindustan Times on Monday, June 9, which quoted a source as saying, the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) had expected the right-handed batter to retire from ODIs after India’s Champions Trophy win.
According to the available information, there have been no discussions between Rohit and the Ajit Agarkar-led selection committee over his ODI future.
“Quite frankly, a lot of us thought Rohit wanted to move away from the ODI format after winning the Champions Trophy. There have been no discussions between Rohit and the selectors over his ODI future,” a BCCI source told Hindustan Times.
