Arshdeep Singh entered his name in the history books on Friday (April 18) by becoming the leading wicket-taker in the IPL for Punjab Kings. The left-arm pacer needed one wicket in the ongoing IPL 2025 match between Punjab Kings and Royal Challengers Bengaluru at M Chinnaswamy Stadium in Bengaluru to take the No. 1 position in the list of leading wicket-takers in the world’s richest franchise cricket league for Punjab Kings, and he achieved the objective by dismissing Phil Salt on the third ball of the 14 overs per side contest.

The ongoing match is Arshdeep’s 72nd IPL match for PBKS, and he now has 85 wickets to his name. Piyush Chawla is in second place with 84 wickets in 87 IPL matches for the Mohali-based franchise.

Arshdeep made his IPL debut for Punjab Kings during the 2019 season and finished with three wickets in three matches.

He was retained by the Mohali-based franchise ahead of the IPL 2022 mega auctions, and in the last three seasons, he dismissed 10, 17 and 19 batters, respectively.

In the IPL 2025 mega auction, PBKS signed Arshdeep for Rs 18 crore via an RTM card.

In the ongoing season of the IPL, Arshdeep picked up two wickets against Gujarat Titans on March 25, three wickets against Lucknow Super Giants at Ekana Stadium on April 1 and 1 wicket against Rajasthan Royals in Mullanpur on April 5. He remained wicketless in the fourth match against Chennai Super Kings, which his side won by 18 runs in Mullanpur on April 8.

In PBKS’ fifth league match against Sunrisers Hyderabad, Arshdeep dismissed one batter for 37 runs, and in the last match played against Kolkata Knight Riders, Arshdeep finished with figures of 1 for 11 in three overs.

The Punjab-based cricketer is one of the best bowlers in the shortest format of the game. He played a big role in India’s T20 World Cup 2024 title win by finishing as the joint-highest wicket-taker.
