LPL Team owner arrested by Police

A Bangladeshi national with British citizenship, who is also a team owner of the Lanka Premier League (LPL) arrested at the Bandaranaike International Airport today.

He was arrested over allegations of match-fixing, by the Special Investigation Unit for the Prevention of Offenses Relating to Sports at the Sports Ministry.

He was produced before Colombo Magistrate’s Court and remanded till 31 May.

In another development, Chairman of Aura Lanka Group of Companies Viranjith Thambugala, who is also Dambulla former owner, has also been arrested by Police over allegations of financial fraud.

He will also be produced before courts today.
