Island’s tourism brand ambassador, former captain and newly appointed Cricket Consultant (full time) Sanath Jayasuriya will be travelling to South Africa for Sri Lanka U19 World Cup Campaign next week, Cricket Age reliably learns.

The ICC U19 World Cup 2024 will be held in South Africa from January 19 to February 11 across five venues.

Sri Lanka is placed in group C along with Australia, Zimbabwe and Namibia. The team departed for South Africa today in the morning hours.

Immediately after his high profile appointment, Jayasuriya had travelled to Dubai along with Sports Minister Harin Fernando (former Tourism Minister) to boost the morale of U19 team during the Asia Cup. The Team, however, returned without qualifying for the 2nd round, after losing to UAE and Bangladesh.

In U19 World Cup previous edition, Mahela Jayawardene had accompanied Sri Lanka squad as Consultant. Now, after Jayasuriya’s arrival, Jayawardene’s designation has been termed as ‘part time consultant’!
