Former SLC President Upali Dharmadasa throws dinner party for opposition MPs

Upali Dharmadasa, the former president of Sri Lanka Cricket (SLC) threw a dinner party for over half a dozen opposition MPs at Waters Edge on Wednesday, Cricket Age Exclusively learns.

Interestingly, Upali’s dinner diplomacy took place barely few hours before SLC’s present administration’s public examination in the parliament, over a debate on it’s audit report, focusing on last T20 World Cup spendings.

The parliament debate was held yesterday, where some of the MPs thrashed SLC top brass and demanded for an Interim committee at Maitland Place, while others spoke in favour of Board President Shammi Silva and Co.

Though, Cricket Age understands, that finally the conclusion was made that just before big tournaments like Asia Cup and 50 Overs World Cup in India, any radical change makes no sense! However, as Sports Minister Roshan Ranasinghe also emphasized in parliament, Sports Law amendments will be implemented soon.

Upali, younger estranged brother of Incumbent Vice President International Cricket of SLC Jayantha Dharmadasa, was president at Maitland Place in past and also headed Interim committees. He still dreams of becoming SLC president and it is speculated that he has joined hands with a tainted former cricket administrator. Till late night yesterday itself, rumors were making rounds within Sri Lanka Cricket fraternity that an Interim committee is on the way. However, there was no truth in those rumours!
