India skipper Virat Kohli will look to surpass MS Dhoni on the list of highest run-scorers as a captain in T20Is when he takes the field in the upcoming 5-match series against New Zealand.

Kohli, who is yet to play a T20I in New Zealand, has scored 1,032 runs at an average of 46.90 and a strike rate of 143.73 in 33 T20Is and is ranked fourth in the list of highest run-scorers as a T20I captain.

Virat Kohli needs only 81 runs to go past former India captain MS Dhoni (1,112) in the run chart. South Africa skipper Faf du Plessis leads the list of highest run-scorers as a T20I captain, having amassed 1,273 runs in 40 T20Is.

Virat Kohli needs to score 242 runs to surpass Faf du Plessis and become the highest run-scorer as a T20I captain. India’s upcoming T20I series against New Zealand, which is starting from January 24, will be their first-ever five-match series in the shortest format of international cricket.

In the recently concluded T20I series against Sri Lanka, Virat Kohli became the fastest to reach 1000 runs in T20I cricket as captain and only the sixth overall to achieve the feat. Kohli, who achieved the feat in 30th innings as a skipper, is only the second Indian captain after MS Dhoni (1112 runs from 62 games) to achieve this feat.
