East Delhi BJP MP and former Indian cricketer Gautam Gambhir has requested Lt-Governor Anil Baijal to rename the Yamuna Sports Complex in East Delhi after former finance minister Arun Jaitley.

Gambhir wrote to Baijal on August 24, the day Jaitley passed away at AIIMS after prolonged illness, proposing to rename the complex in his constituency after the former finance minister in recognition of his contribution towards nation-building and his love for cricket

“I am writing this letter to propose to your good self to rename Yamuna Sports Complex… in the name of eminent lawyer, our great leader and former finance minister, late Arun Jaitley ji,” Gambhir’s letter reads.

A senior DDA official said the agency regularly holds meetings where it discusses recommendations for renaming its properties.

“After getting clearances of all wings that have jurisdiction over the property… the DDA recommends the proposal to the Delhi government and the CM takes the final decision,” he said.
