IPL 2019: Gautam Gambhir to coach Kings XI Punjab?

Written by Rohit Pawar

Last week, recently retired Gautam made it clear that he would look forward to coaching instead of holding the mic and doing commentary. Now it seems like he is close to signing a coaching deal with the Indian Premier League (IPL) franchise Kings XI Punjab (KXIP). A recent chat between KXIP and Gambhir have left fans assuming that the former cricketer might soon join the team’s backroom staff soon.

“Thanks team red for making it special. Let’s meet soon…@BCCI @BCCIdomestic,” Gambhir had written in the wish which came from KXIP after his retirement. The franchise was quick to reply and dropped a hint of Gambhir joining the franchise.

“It is our pleasure. Waiting to see you cheer for our lions from the stands of the den! @GautamGambhir,” KXIP wrote.

Going into this season, KXIP decided to overhaul their backroom staff, also dropping Virender Sehwag, the mentor of the franchise. Brad Hodge was removed as the head coach while Venkatesh Prasad stepped down as the bowling coach of the team.

Mike Hesson joined the team as the head coach while Ryan Harris recently took over the job as the bowling coach. Craig McMillan and Sridharan Sriram were the other additions to the backroom staff.
