ICC officials arrives to meet Sri Lanka’s Cricket Transformation Committee, Sports Minister, as Financial uncertainty grows

In the wake of democratically elected Shammi Silva led administration’s mass resignation from the Maitland Place last month, the International Cricket Council’s (ICC) official has arrived to meet Sports Minister Sunil Kumara Gamage and his interim committee, labelled as Cricket Transformation Committee (CTC) today, Cricket Age Exclusively learns.

Chaired by former MP Eran Wickramaratne, a nine-member panel appointed by the government, following the resignation of the previous leadership.

The ICC officials are expected to meet the Sports Minister followed by CTC members.

The ICC officials arrive at a time when SLC’s Financial Crisis deepens under CTC. Cricket Age understands that Sports Minister Gamage has only handed over appointment letters to the CTC members, but did not issue a special gazette notification of their appointments. In this scenario, without sending a resolution, no funds can be released.

It was a blunder made by the Sports Minister, but cricket operations in the Island are suffering due to this, as all SLC-organized domestic cricket tournaments have been suspended until further notice. To make things worse, ICC funds remain uncertain until a new administration is appointed through a future democratic election.
