In a major development in the Sri Lanka Cricket, Sports Minister Faizer Mustapha has finally agreed  to appoint an interim committee in order to stop the slump of the Cricket in the Island, Cricket Age reliably learns.

Last Week, All Former SLC Presidents Jayantha Dharmadasa, Sidath Wettimuny, Upali Dharmadasa, Arjuna Ranatunga, Reinzie Wijetilleke, Ana Punchihewa and Wijaya Malasekara Wrote a letter to Mustapha, requesting him for the appointment of the interim committee.

In response, on Wednesday, Mustapha invited all the presidents for a meeting at Ministry.

During their two hours long Discussion, Former Presidents Presented the sorry status of Sri Lanka Cricket before the Sports Minister.

“After getting the real picture of Sri Lanka Cricket from past Presidents, Honorable Sports Minister was on the view that it is a must to appoint an interim committee to bring Sri Lanka Cricket back on track which is in shambles right now” a top official of Sports Ministry told Cricket Age.

Four Former Presidents Arjuna Ranatunga, Jayantha Dharmadasa, Sidath Wettimuny and Ana Punchihewa were present during the meeting, while Upali Dharmadasa, Reinzie Wijetilleke And Wijaya Malasekara also lent their support, even though they couldn’t attend the meeting due to their prior commitments.

It is noteworthy that After Sumathipala Led administration departed from the SLC on May 31st after falling to conduct election on time, SLC is under the observation of Sports Minister.

There was a hearing at Court Off Appeal today morning against Sumathipala and SLC based on a complaint filed by former secretary Nishantha Ranatunga.

The Court, however, gave 3rd September as a next date to Sports Ministry to produce the Roadmap for the SLC election in proper manner.

On 3rd October too, if the Ranatunga Side takes objection against the roadmap, then court will further push the proceedings for another date. In this scenario, SLC election to be held only in 2019.
