Dinesh Karthik Can’t Replace MS Dhoni in 2019 World Cup, Despite Recent Heroics, Says Sandeep Patil

Indian wicket-keeper batsman, Dinesh Karthik’s stars have risen dramatically since that match-winning performance that he had put in the final of Nidahas Trophy T20 tri-series against Bangladesh in Sri Lanka. The Tamil Nadu-batsman played the role of a finisher extremely well and proved once again that if it wasn’t for the arrival of MS Dhoni, he himself would have had enjoyed an elongated career in the Indian team. Obviously, talks of the selection of Karthik in India’s 2019 World Cup squad in place of the Ranchi-born batsman but former selector Sandeep Patil isn’t too keen on the proposition.

“Dinesh seems to have settled shown…and he has provided the team management and the selectors a reliable option. The performance in a final will definitely do a lot for Karthik,” Patil told.

“That said, I will still go with Dhoni. Unfortunately, in the ICC events, 17 or 18 players can’t be picked. I want Dhoni to play in 2019 WC, his fitness is fabulous, his exploits have gone down a bit but it happens with every cricketer. The experience he has…he can still deliver under pressure because the pressure during a World Cup is completely different and Dhoni has been,” Patil added.

Even Indian captain Virat Kohli had recently told CoA Vinod Rai that he deems Dhoni indispensable in the current team and wants him to continue at least until the 2019 World Cup.
