Robin Uthappa Should be KKR’s new captain, says Sourav Ganguly

After the high profile ‘non-retention’ of Gautam Gambhir, Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) management will have to decide on the new captain to lead the side.

Former KKR skipper Sourav Ganguly, while talking on Star Sports, gave his views on who should be the team’s next skipper while also expressing his apprehensions over the name of Chris Lynn.

“The only captain material for him in the current team is Robin Uthappa. While Dinesh Karthik’s case can also be discussed but it doesn’t make sense since it would be his first year in the team” he said.

“I am not sure if an overseas player should become the captain of the franchise and considering only four non-Indian players can feature in the playing XI, rest and rotation also come into the picture.” he opined on the possibility of Chris Lynn as the captain.

Another factor that works in Uthappa’s favour is the fact that Lynn is highly injury prone and is presently also nursing a dislocated shoulder that ruled him out of the Pakistan Super League Season 3. Although the Aussie is likely to regain full fitness before the start of IPL season 11, the doubt over his full-season participation is likely to work against him in the captaincy race.
