Foundation Of Goodness, Murali-Mahela lends support to Rural School Cricketers

Some of the true well wishers of Sri Lanka cricket came together for a noble cause : to distribute Cricket Gears to the young kids of rural schools.

Kushil Gunasekera, the man who has dedicated his life for the betterment of the society through his Foundation Of Goodness (FOG), Shyam Bhatia, a Dubai based Businessman and Legendary cricketers Mahela Jayawardene and Muttiah Muralitharan, all came together, on Wednesday, to give their support to the younger generation.

At Upali’s, Colombo 7, on the spacious Poya Day, there were the scenes like a cricket carnival, as 50 Young kids were present to get cricket gears from the FOG and two legends.

Jaffna Central College, St. Patrick’s College, Jaffna College and St. John’s College all from Jaffna, Cheddikulam Maha Vidyalayam, Puthukulam Maha Vidyalayam, Nelukulam Kalaimahal Maha Vidyalayam all from Vavunia, Pattirupu National School, Kiran Maha Vidyalayam (Girls), Magar Magare Maha Vidyalayam, Mhajena girls school all from Batticaloa, Were handed over Cricket gears to the young kids, remarkably including both girls and boys.

To make the occasion memorable, Roshan Mahanama, One of the pillar of Sri Lanka golden era, was also extended his support to the noble cause.

“Mahela Jayawardene won the IPL in his first year itself as Mumbai Indians Coach in 2017. To acknowledge his achievement, Dubai based businessman Shyam Bhatia gave 50 Cricket gears for the rural kids, who deserves to be Encouraged” Said Kushil Gunasekera.

“Since me and Murali are truste, we decided to distribute it through Foundation of Goodness” said the former Sri Lanka captain Mahela Jayawardene.

“This is a great initiative and will immensely help budding cricketers from rural areas particularly like Jaffna” Mahela added.

“David Curse also deserves applause for making this a memorable event, by hosting it at the prestigious Upali’s restaurant” he added further.

As the event was an honest effort to extend support for the much-deserving rural kids, The iconic Percy Abeysekera and President of Sri Lanka school cricket association Kapila Jayalath were also graced the occasion.

FOG has become a pioneer in Philanthropic activities in Seenigama and Jaffna region. Established by Kushil Gunasekera, Muttiah Muralitharan is also the founder trustee of the NGO, while Mahela Jayawardene and Kumar Sangakkara are also the trustee.
