Kusal Mendis, Chandimal, Shanaka included in Preliminary ODI Squad for Bangladesh Tour, Thirimanne dropped

Sri Lanka Selectors have included young batsman Kusal Mendis, test captain Dinesh Chandimal and allrounder Dasun Shanaka into the 23 men Preliminary squad for the ODI series of their Bangladesh tour. Lahiru Thirimanne, however, has been ignored for the upcoming Tournament.

Mendis, Chandimal and Shanaka all were not part of the squad, that played three match ODI series against India recently.

Lahiru Thirimanne, however, couldn’t find a place even in preliminary squad, as pressure mounted on selectors to drop him. During the India tour, Asanka Gurusinha led team Management expriemnted with Thirimanne, as they once again appointed him as the vice captain of the team. However, he flopped big time once again, and proved the team management outright wrong.

Additionally, all the selected players were told to not participate in the domestic Cricket, until their departure for the tour.

“The players were asked not to play domestic cricket following a request made by the newly appointed head coach Chandika Hathurasingha and we complied with that” Said Thilanga Sumathipala, the President of Sri Lanka Cricket Board.

The move is aimed at helping the new Coach to have quality time with the players.
