Written by Vipin Darwade

Two Asian powerhouse India and Sri Lanka has been knocked out of the U19 Asia Cup, after unexpected defeats in the first round, while Pakistan, Bangladesh, Afghanistan and Nepal have been qualified for the semi finals.

Two consecutive defeats against Nepal and Bangladesh caused India dearly in the first round. Nepal, a cricketing nation without any infrastructure, and ground even, stunned world Cricket by defeating defending champions India. The Shocking defeat against Nepal is undoubtedly the lowest point of Indian U19 team, under the Legendary Rahul Dravid guidance as head Coach.

Sri Lanka, meanwhile, lost a crucial match against Pakistan by three wickets. Though, Sri Lanka unearthed a mystery right-arm leg spinner Kevin Koththigoda, but were not consistent enough to advance to the semi finals. Praveen Jayawickarama and Koththigoda caught the attention of the cricket fraternity, but their batsmen’s inability to put good score cost Sri Lanka a semi final birth.

First semi final will be played between Pakistan and Bangladesh on 16th November, while Afghanistan and Nepal clash will be on 17th November.
