Left-arm leg spinner Praveen Jayawikrama took 5/17 as Sri Lanka Under 19 registered their second straight win in the U19 Asia Cup by Afghanistan U19 by 61 runs at Bayuemas Oval, Malasya, today.

Winning the toss, Afghanistan elected to bowl first, after play reduced to 42 overs per side due to rain. Sri Lanka U19 openers put 59 runs for the first wicket, before Dhananjaya Lakshan Ran himself out for 24. Captain Kamindu Mendis couldn’t contribute much, as he was bowled on 11 by Qais Ahmad. But, Opener Hasitha Boyagoda anchored the innings with a composed 53. In middle overs, he formed useful partnerships with Krishan Arachchig and dashing allrounder Jehan Daniel to guide Sri Lanka to 196 runs in 42 overs.

Chasing the target of 196, Afghanistan were 45/2 after 13.2 overs, but middle order couldn’t carry on the momentum as Praveen Jayawickrama rattled middle order with his leg spin and bundled out for 135 in 33.5 overs. He took five Afghanistani wickets just for 17 runs, as Sri Lanka registered a comprehensive victory by 61 runs.
Only D Rasooli Shown resistance, as he stroked a counter attacking innings of 50 in just 44 balls, with four towering sixes.
