SLC fast sinking, Dayasiri-Sumathipala trying to hide behind legendary cricketers!

Written by Pushpendra Albe

There is an old adage: for politicians there is no permanent friend or enemy. The two commerades of Sri Lanka cricket- Sports Minister Dayasiri Jayasekara and President Thilanga Sumathipala truly believes in the adage.  So now, an unexpected turn of events, minister Jayasekaraimages (1) has called up  respected former test cricketer Sidath Wettimuny for an emergency meeting along with a few other former greats.

Minister Jayasekara has invited legendary trio of Kumar Sangakkara, Mahela Jayawardene and Muttiah Muralitharan along with Wettimuny. Though, Sangakkara won’t be able to present in the meeting, as currently he is playing county cricket in England for Surrey.

It’s an absolutely surprising move from the minister Jayasekara, as just few days ago, SLC shamelessly thrown out their Coach Graham Ford, whom legendary Sangakkara somehow pursued to do the job for the country, 15 months ago. Jayasekara criticised Wettimuny as well in the past and had thrown his proposal for the new constitution for Sri Lanka cricket into dustbin.

But, as Sri Lanka cricket is in all time low right now, they have no other option rather than to hide behind the legendary cricketers.

Right now SLC is just like a sinking ship, and majority of  the administrators, who has self respect and dignity, like Arvinda De’silva, Jayantha Dharmdasa Have parted ways.

Now, there are only two persons in the sinking ship, Minister Jayasekara and his fellow Thilanga Sumathipala. Both are politicians, so one can expect from them to use the all tricks to salvage their self created image. Inviting legendary cricketers is amongst one of those tricks!
