When kind hearted SL cricketers saved a career

Written by Pushpendra Albe

Right from the beginning, Sri Lanka cricket has been known for their kind hearted players. easy going, normal life style, very polite and always ready to help – these are some qualities, have always been synonymous with them. Generations has changed, players have changed, but this culture remains intact. How we can forget the ever smiling faces of muthiah murlitharan or Nuwan Kulasekara.

And, just last week, they reminded us, how nice human beings they are. Madura Lakmal Perera, a 31 year old bowler from kalutara, Who played first class cricket for Moors, Ragama and Sinhalese Sports Club, had to admit to a Colombo based hospital, for the back surgery. Though the surgery was long due, finally, he agreed, as he came to know that the expenses of the surgery would be cleared by SLC, their cricket board. But at the last moment, as madura said “SLC backed out”.

Fortunately for him, in the hours of crisis, Sri Lanka cricketers came to support him. Dhammika Prasad, one of the best fast bowlers, Sri Lanka has ever produced, took the responsibility for this noble cause. Within few hours, players like Angelo Matthews, Chamara Kapugedera, Dasun Shanaka, Farveez Maharoof, Rangana Hearth, Dilruwan Perera, Milinda Siriwardana, Dusmantha Chameera, Seekuge Prasanna, Ajantha Mendis, Kaushal Silva came to support their friend.

Now, surgery has done successfully. and Mathura has no words to describe this, neither we. All we can do is to – Salute these real life heroes !
