Afghanistan wicketkeeper-batter Rahmanullah Gurbaz found himself at the centre of one of the most unusual moments of the 2026 Shpageeza Cricket League after a fan ran onto the field and snatched his cap before making a quick getaway.
The bizarre incident unfolded during Mis Ainak Knights’ clash against Band-e-Amir Dragons at the Rahmat Wali Masroor Cricket Ground in Khost on Friday.
During a brief stoppage in play, a spectator breached security and sprinted straight towards Gurbaz. Instead of asking for a selfie or autograph, the fan grabbed the opener’s cap and ran away, leaving players, match officials and spectators momentarily stunned.
Security personnel immediately gave chase, but not before the unusual stunt had played out in front of everyone. Gurbaz, meanwhile, took the incident in good spirits, smiling as teammates looked on in amusement.
Videos of the cap-snatching episode quickly went viral on social media, with many fans praising the Afghanistan star for remaining calm and reacting with humour despite the unexpected interruption.
