Sri Lanka wicketkeeper-batter Kusal Mendis has been ruled out of the T20 World Cup clash against Pakistan due to injury.
Pakistan and Sri Lanka are locking horns in their last game of the Super 8 round in T20 World Cup 2026 today at Pallekele International Cricket Stadium in Pallekele. The SL vs PAK game is a dead-rubber clash for Sri Lanka as they have been eliminated from the tournament.
Mendis suffered an injury in the previous game against New Zealand that took place on February 25 at R Premadasa Stadium in Colombo. Hence, he was ruled out of the match. The Sri Lankan vice-captain injured his right shoulder while trying to dive to avoid a run-out in the match.
Mendis’ absence comes as a big blow for Sri Lanka, as he has done a decent job with the bat. The wicket-keeper batter has scored 197 runs in six games at an average of 39.40 and a strike rate of 114.53. He is the second highest run-scorer for the team after Pathum Nissanka. He also scored three half-centuries in the league stage.
Mendis is also likely to miss the upcoming T20 series against Afghanistan, pending further medical assessment.
