Sri Lanka Cricket (SLC) has suspended Galle District Cricket Association (GDCA) and has appointed an Interim committee to run day-to-day affairs, Cricket Age reliably learns.
An Inquiry has also been launched against former GDCA secretary Mahesh Sanjeewa, who is accused of financial irregularities.
According to sources, GDCA had it’s Annual General Meeting (AGM) in the last week of August. However, due to Mahesh Sanjeewa’s manipulation and his inability to passed the accounts, SLC, being the paternal body, suspended the association.
Accordingly, a five member Interim committee has been appointed to oversee the GDCA, which Includes former president Kumar Helambage, Galle Cricket Club president Charles Silva, Jayantha Jayaweera, Lal Ranasinghe and Harsha Munasinghe.
Cricket Age understands that Mahesh Sanjeewa has been charged with multiple financial frauds during his controversial tenure. Mahesh Sanjeewa was brought into the system by Galle Cricket Club’s former curator Jayananda Warnaweera Warnaweera in 90s. However, when Warnaweera was banned by the International Cricket Council (ICC), Sanjeewa betrayed him and joined many camps here and there, before forming a paper club!
