Shubman Gill and Ishan Kishan scored magnificent centuries to pile further misery on Afghanistan in the searing Lucknow heat during the second ODI on Wednesday.
Gill struck his maiden ODI century for India, scoring 154 off 110 balls, while Ishan blasted 125 off 79 deliveries as the hosts amassed a mammoth 402 all out in 50 overs at the Ekana Cricket Stadium.
India have now crossed the 400-run mark eight times in ODI cricket, equalling South Africa for the most 400-plus totals in the format’s history. England are next on the list, having breached the 400-run barrier seven times.
England, however, hold the record for the three highest team totals in men’s ODIs. Their 498/4 against the Netherlands in June 2022 remains the highest total ever recorded in ODIs. This is the second time that Afghanistan have conceded 400 or more in an ODI with Australia scoring 417/6 in 2015.
