Bangladesh captain Mehidy Hasan Miraz was taken to the hospital for observation after suffering a concussion during his side’s historic ODI series-clinching win over Australia in Dhaka on Thursday. According to ESPNcricinfo, Mehidy was out of danger but will remain at the hospital on Friday.

The all-rounder was struck on the side of his helmet by a sharp Riley Meredith bouncer during the 34th over of Bangladesh’s chase in the second ODI. He immediately grabbed the area where the ball struck him before dropping to his knees in visible discomfort.

Bangladesh team physio Bayjedul Islam Khan rushed onto the field to conduct a concussion assessment, while television footage appeared to show Mehidy vomiting during treatment. Australia’s team doctor also joined the medical team as a stretcher was brought onto the field.

However, after several tense minutes, Mehidy managed to get back on his feet and resumed his innings. He later sealed Bangladesh’s victory in dramatic fashion, hitting a six to finish the 192-run chase (DLS adjusted target), helping the hosts secure their maiden ODI series win over Australia.

“Mehidy Hasan Miraz had a concussion during the match today,” Bangladesh physio Bayjedul Islam Khan said after the game. “He continued to play after being assessed in the middle. We have sent him to the hospital to assess the rest of his signs, and for general observation. He will be there for the next 24 hours.”

With the Bangladesh captain unavailable for post-match duties, Najmul Hossain Shanto represented the team during the presentation ceremony and provided an update on Mehidy’s condition.

“Looks fine, but we have to observe him tonight. That’s what I heard. Probably he went to hospital,” Shanto said.
