Sri Lanka Cricket (SLC) has reportedly decided to sue former administrator K. Mathivanan for 500 million SLR over his unsuccessful petition at Supreme court challenging the legitimacy of board election June this year, Cricket Age reliably learns.
K. Mathivanan, a former SLC Vice President, had filed a significant Fundamental Rights (FR) petition in the Supreme Court challenging the legitimacy of the 2025-2027 SLC election, alleging violations of the Sports Law and SLC Constitution, seeking annulment of the current office bearers, including President Shammi Silva, and demanding fresh elections due to improper gazetting and election manipulation.
However, the Supreme Court, in Its first hearing today itself, deemed Mathivanan’s petition inappropriate, citing neither it was seconded or proposed by an affiliated club or association. The Supreme Court, while dismissing the petition, pointed out that K. Mathivanan or anyone else from his camp didn’t even file the nomination for the said SLC election.
The SLC hierarchy opines that Mathivanan’s court case has caused unnecessary instability, stalling progress on cricket reforms and diverting focus from development programs as well as damaging the cricket board’s public reputation. At the same time, these unnecessary legal proceedings have bogged down SLC’s administrative operations and discouraged sponsors.
