IPL 2024: Might see Mitchell Starc playing at RCB this season, says Irfan Pathan

Irfan Pathan feels that we may end up seeing Mitchell Starc head back to RCB during the IPL 2024 auction.

Starc is one of the players expected to fetch big money during the IPL auctions and had represented the Bengaluru-based outfit in the past, playing two seasons for them in 2014 and 2015. The left-arm pacer picked up a total of 34 wickets in two seasons for RCB.

The Bengaluru side will be in the hunt for a foreign pacer, given that they released Josh Hazlewood from the squad and Reece Topley’s injury concerns.

Pathan, while talking to Star Sports, said that he can see Starc playing at RCB next season as he has experience playing for them. The former cricketer also feels that Starc’s skillset will be required by RCB, especially when they’re playing at the Chinnaswamy stadium.

“I really think you might see Mitchell Starc playing for RCB because he was there before. They would want him there as well because being a left-armer, bowling 140-plus, having that extra pace in those types of pitches at the Chinnaswamy Stadium will be of utmost importance for RCB,” said Pathan.

Pathan also feels that RCB may have released Harshal Patel given that they have Vyshak Vijaykumar in their ranks as a possible replacement.

“They have a very underrated bowler right now, which people might not be talking about, that’s Vyshak Vijaykumar, who came as a replacement. I thought there were quite a few things to like about him. His slower one was very impressive and that is why I think RCB have taken the decision to leave out Harshal Patel,” said Pathan.
