Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) Honorary Secretary Jay Shah won the ‘Sports Business Leader of the Year’ award at the 2023 Sports Business Awards.

The BCCI took to social media platform ‘X’ to congratulate Shah for winning the award, saying he’s left an indelible mark on the cricketing world.

“CONGRATULATIONS to BCCI Honorary Secretary @JayShah on being awarded the Sports Business Leader of the Year Award at the @FollowCII Sports Business Awards 2023. A first for any leader in Indian Sports administration, this recognition is truly deserved!,”

“His leadership has left an indelible mark on Cricket worldwide— spearheading the ICC Men’s World Cup to new heights, championing inclusivity with significant strides in pay parity and the creation of the Women’s Premier League, steering the inclusion of Cricket at the Olympics, and many more groundbreaking initiatives that have changed the game forever,” BCCI posted on ‘X’.

Shah, the son of Indian politician Amit Shah, has made a significant mark in the world of cricket administration. His journey in cricket administration began with his role at the Gujarat Cricket Association. Following his stint with the GCA, Shah took over the role of BCCI’s Honorary Secretary at a young age of 31.

He played a crucial role in the establishment of the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad, which is now one of the largest cricket stadiums in the world. His leadership has seen the BCCI consolidate its position as the richest cricket board globally.

Shah’s vision extended to the promotion of women’s cricket, exemplified by the introduction of the Women’s Premier League (WPL) and achieving pay parity for female cricketers. This initiative has not only boosted the profile of women’s cricket in India but also set a benchmark for other sports bodies in the country.
