Shubman Gill constructs innings brilliantly, possesses lazy elegance unlike intense Virat Kohli: Harbhajan Singh

Former India cricketer Harbhajan Singh highlighted the stark contrasts between Shubman Gill and Virat Kohli after both hit back-to-back hundreds in the IPL 2023 league stage. Gill replicated Kohli’s remarkable achievement by scoring his second consecutive century.

The momentous occasion took place during the last league game between Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) and Gujarat Titans (GT). Gill, who became the first player from GT to hit a hundred in the history of the tournament, reached his half-century in a blazing 29 balls. He then took another 23 balls to secure his second consecutive hundred, following his maiden IPL century against SunRisers Hyderabad.

Gill’s century-sealing six in the final over led GT to a six-wicket victory over RCB, who got eliminated from the IPL 2023 as fourth-placed Mumbai Indians advanced to the playoffs. Interestingly, both Gill and Kohli attained their first hundreds in IPL 2023 against SunRisers Hyderabad.

“Shubman Gill constructs his innings brilliantly. He has his own persona and possesses that lazy elegance, unlike intense Virat Kohli. He can play all kinds of shots with ease just like Kohli, but he won’t appear as aggressive as Kohli with his body language. He is a different character. He’s such a prospective talent for India,” Harbhajan said on Star Sports’ Cricket Live.

Harbhajan added that Kohli has proper cricketing shots and can play in any format with supreme techniques.

“You never see Virat Kohli play risky shots, he always looks to play in the ‘V’. He has proper cricketing shots and that is why he’s such a great batter. Kohli is a proper batter and he can play any format of the game be it Tests, T20s or even T10s because of the supreme technique,” Harbhajan said.
