Chennai Super Kings are set to begin their home stretch against KL Rahul’s Lucknow Super Giants in IPL 2023, and are coming into the game after losing their opener of the tournament.

Speaking ahead of the game, CSK opener Ruturaj Gaikwad said that it would be a special return when the team walks out for the game in front of the fans for the fist time in four years. In a video uploaded by Chennai Super Kings on their social media channels, the CSK opener said that it is a special feeling to play in a ground that carries so much history.

“It feels really special to come here at this beautiful stadium which has a long history and so many great moments. So, I think to come here and to play for CSK does feel a lot special,” Gaikwad said in the build-up to the LSG game.

“We all know how loyal the fans are, we all know how true they are towards the franchise, towards the city. So, especially after playing the last match, four years back, it is good to be back here,” he further added.

Ruturaj Gaikwad was one of the few positives for Chennai from their IPL opener. Gaikwad started off his IPL campaign with a sensational 92 off 50 balls and carried CSK to a respectable score in the opening encounter of the Indian Premier League. Speaking about the strategy for the home game, Gaikwad said that the team will have to adapt to the conditions rapidly and some stability will be needed in the batting line-up.

“Nothing changes much. The approach towards the game remains the same. Even with the batting, we will just try and adapt to whatever there is on offer and we’ll just make sure that we bat really, bat smartly and make sure that one or two of the top 5, top 6 bat throughout the innings,” Gaikwad said.
