Dhoni can play IPL 2024 as well, he has been looking fit and batting well: Suresh Raina

Former India batter Suresh Raina said he wouldn’t be surprised if MS Dhoni turns up to play in the Indian Premier League in 2024, adding that the Chennai Super Kings skipper has been looking fit and batting well in the lead-up to the IPL 2023 season. Dhoni has been gearing up for what is probably his swansong in the IPL after having arrived in Chennai well in advance to train with the rest of his CSK teammates.

MS Dhoni had confirmed last year that he would play IPL 2023, saying it would only be fair if he says thank you to fans across the country when he travels with CSK in the new season, which will return to home and away format for the first time since 2019. Notably, Dhoni had given up as CSK captain at the start of IPL 2022 and handed over the reins to Ravindra Jadeja. However, the India all-rounder stepped down midway during the season and Dhoni took over as captain as CSK’s succession plan failed last season.

“He can play the IPL next year as well, you never know,” Raina said.

“He (Dhoni) has been batting well and looking fit, it depends on how the performance is this year. It may be a little challenging since him and (Ambati) Rayudu haven’t played the tournament since one year,” he added.
